Monster Hunter Too Easy Compared to Dark Souls
In a long and obscure history of difficult video games which are totally not made for the players' joy, bothDark SoulsandMonster Hunterstand out as action RPG representatives. Their latest games,Dark Souls 3andMonster Hunter: Worldare both nerve-wracking and will usually cost a few popped blood vessels and some poor controllers.
Anyone who has played both and kept their sanity can surely note the similarity between the two titles when it comes to the gameplay aspects. Both games require practice, repetition, patience, and grit to overcome. Still, one is always better than the other in some aspects, here's how the two games compare to each other.
10 MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD IS HARDER: MORE RIGID ANIMATIONS
Animations are huge factors in games like these two and surprisingly,Dark Soulsgames are the more forgiving of the two. Players can easily cancel animations and make some split-second changes to save their hide or get an attack in.
Meanwhile,Monster Hunter: Worldfollows human anatomy physics more faithfully where animations have to be played out in full before making another action. This makes foresight and calculation more intense and necessary forMonster Huntergames.
9 DARK SOULS IS HARDER: TOO MANY ENEMIES
If there was one ever-growing woe fromDark Soulsfans throughout all the three games, it would be the increasingly frequent tendencies of enemies to dogpile the player. Each level or location has at least two or more enemies waiting in ambush.
Apart from that, some boss fights are also full of minions or duos, trios, and quartets ready to crush the hearts and courage of anyone expecting a fair one-on-one.Monster Huntergames at least respect that kind of honor... sometimes.
8 MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD IS HARDER: LONGER BOSS FIGHTS
While most boss fights or any fights inMonster Huntergames, they tend to drag on especially on lower to mid-tier levels. After all,Monster Huntertends to focus more on quality than quantity of enemies and levels.
Boss fights or hunts that don't take place during the endgame phase usually last anywhere between 15 to 30 minutes-- sometimes nearly an hour making them more like marathons instead of battles. With the right equipment and a mountainous amount of grind, these fights can be trimmed to as short as 1 minute or less.
7 DARK SOULS IS HARDER: CUTTHROAT PVP
This is where the two games branch off in terms of gameplay aspects.Dark Souls'online multiplayer is vastly different thanMonster Hunter: World's friendlier co-op mode. That's all thanks to invasions and plenty of opportunities for betrayal.
Dark Soulsgames allow other players to gatecrash other people's games and kill them for a considerable reward. It's pretty much digital cold-blooded murder. Beyond that, there are also fight clubs set at certain levels of the game as well that are highly competitive.
6 MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD IS HARDER: CO-OP IS DOUBLE-EDGED
Nearly Half Of Monster Hunter: World's Iceborne DLC Takes Place In Areas From The Base Game
Don't be fooled by the seemingly generous co-op ofMonster Hunter : World, it also comes with its own drawback. That would be the shared faint system or the amount of respawns allowed per hunt. It's shared by all players and usually, only three faints are allowed.
That's why every random SOS flare or call for help inMonster Hunter: Worldis a gamble especially if the player who came to the aid is a bumbling newbie who will only use up all the available faints. This has caused way too many co-op hunts to fail than succeed.
5 DARK SOULS IS HARDER: DEADLIER ENVIRONMENTS
Monster Hunter: Worldmight feature primordial and untamed wilds butDark Souls' sinister castle corridors, putrid swamps, and trap-laden dungeons are the stuff of nightmares. Most of the time, newbie players die to the environment as much as they die to the enemies.
The developers spared no creativity in making the players' adventures a gauntlet of hell involving dragon fire, spikes, spherical boulders, and abyssal drops. Hence, most players are already mentally worn out once they get to the boss fights.
4 MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD IS HARDER: RANDOM MONSTER SCENARIOS
WhereasDark Soulsgames tend to be semi-scripted dungeon runs once players get the hang of it,Monster Hunter: Worldis more varied in its approach. Monster behavior, size, and many other factors such as the time or territorial rotation can complicate hunts.
There are plenty of instances inMonster Hunter: Worldwhere an already difficult hunt can be interrupted by another monster. This can either be a territorial three-way or all of them ganging up on the players.
3 DARK SOULS IS HARDER: HIGH RISK, HIGH REWARD
Outside of actual monster fights,Monster Hunter: Worldwas never really that stressful.Dark Soulsgames, on the other hand, doesn't let the players rest especially on the first two or three playthroughs.
It's all thanks to the game's brilliant and cruel mechanic where death means losing hard-earned progress in the form of souls. Oh, actually it's not just souls but also, all enemies will respawn and players will have to re-tread the same treacherous path where they died.
2 MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD IS HARDER: RNG IS LESS FORGIVING
Hard work and dedication in Dark Souls' is typically rewarded consistently with only a few items requiring some RNG gambling to obtain. This isn't the case inMonster Hunter: World. Veteran players can toil all they want and still not get the decoration or monster part they need.
At the same time, some lucky upstart might get everything they want to complete their build. That's just howMonster Hunter: World's RNG and loot table work. It does invite replayability but sometimes it's the very definition of insanity.
1 DARK SOULS IS HARDER: TRIAL AND ERROR EXPLORATION
The world ofDark Soulsgames can feel just as organic and alive as the biomes ofMonster Hunter. Each area has cleverly hidden shortcuts or treasure stashes waiting for the bold risk-takers. In that regard, each locale in everyDark Soulsis like an uncharted area.
The players are then the explorers who will either find rewards or die in the process or both. It's just that missing most of these areas can be a handicap for most players and can make the game harder. Still, that's what they signed up for anyway.
